AbstractThe distribution of the vegetation is largely related with abiotic factors, as climate, soil, relief and precipitation. The response of vegetation formations to the variance of these factors on time scale is called phenology. The study of phenology on regional and global scales is usually associated with satellite data, specific the vegetation index, as NDVI. This present work suggests the utilization of fraction images to study the phenological behavior of different vegetation formations. We used a time series of 2002 MODIS sensor data (vegetation index and the spectral bands), and the linear mixing model for this purpose. Our results showed that the fraction images are strongly related to the vegetation index images, and has the potentiality to detect and monitor the phenological response of the biomes studied.
